During the Pacific Railroad simulation, you will experience various situations during the preparation and implementation of the project. Look forward to an experience that will help you understand and remember what is important for effective teamwork.
On May 10, 1869, one of the great projects of the 19th century, the construction of the First Transcontinental Railroad in the United States, was completed by hammering a gold nail.
For the first time, this railroad connected the east and west coasts of the States and, on an unprecedented scale, enabled the transportation of people and goods across the continent using state-of-the-art technology. Much of the track is still in operation today.
In our game you have the opportunity to go back to this period – will you be a more capable builder, and you will complete the construction on time and budget, or will the project prove to be beyond your power and you will be swept away by fierce competition?
As a team, you will receive the task of President Abraham Lincoln to build the Pacific Railroad – the first US transcontinental railroad.
You will need to convince Congress of the usefulness of the project, set up a team, communicate effectively, address issues, risks, and change assignments. You will then be tasked with connecting the east and west coasts of the U.S. railroads within a limited time limit and within budget.
During the implementation you will deal with unexpected events, changes in the project, fluctuations in input prices, etc.
It will be up to you and your team to deal with all the pitfalls of the Wild West!
